Studio Cinemas

Located in Fort William, Inverness-shire in the Scottish Highlands. Originally on this site was the Town Hall which was built in 1892, which was used as a cinema from 1913 until 1926. The building was destroyed by fire in 1975.

The Studio Cinemas was a twin-screen cinema built on the empty site in 1986. Seating was provided for 76 & 128. It was closed in 2006 and demolition is planned for 2019 when a new 2-screen cinema will be built on the site.

The cinema closed in 2006. Evidence shows that the building has been in use as a flooring shop, but the foyer is in pretty much the same state as it was when I last photographed it in 2013 complete with fire extinguisher on the counter, see new photo. More info at: www.pressandjournal.co.uk/fp/news/highlands/864595/highland-community-aiming-to-resurrect-local-cinema/. The Group’s website is at: www.lochabercinema.co.uk/group-media-links/. The clothing shop at the front was previously the TIC.

Its currently classed as empty. Its the same inside as it was when it closed in 2006. Only exception when there was a carpet shop in the smaller screen they removed all the seats. Its been lying empty for so long one day we hope to bring it back.

This building is now scheduled to be demolished sometime next year. A new 2 screen cinema will be put in its place.
