Iveagh Cinema

This was a very sad loss. The Iveagh Cinema opened on 3rd December 1955 with Marilyn Monroe in “Gentlemen Prefer Blondes”. My photographs were taken in November 1998, when I saw “Antz”. The cinema was put up for sale in October 1999. In January 2000 it was reported that Banbridge District Council were to buy it for £350,000 and turn it into an arts centre. Sadly, that never happened, and the cinema closed on 31 March 2001. It was eventually demolished in spring 2004. I believe housing now occupies the site.

Another fine cinema by John McBride Neill, it was originally planned to open as the Ritz Cinema.
