Regal Cinema

The Regal Cinema, situated between Bawnmore Road and Lancefield Road, opened on 23rd October 1935 with “The Little Minister” starring Katherine Hepburn and John Beal. It was owned by the Curran family. The large neon ‘Regal’ sign, weighing three tons, was said to be the largest in Ireland.

The Rank Organisation took over the cinema in 1955. It closed on 7 January 1967. Eventually it was demolished. Flats and shops were built on the site in 1982.
