Towers Cinema

In Ballymena, County Antrim, the Towers Cinema opened on Saturday 4th December 1937 with a special screening of “Mr. Stringfellow Says No!” starring Neil Hamilton and Claude Dampier. The following Monday saw Shirley Temple starring in “Stowaway”. The cinema had been built for Supreme Cinemas Ltd. by Messrs Donnelly Bros. of Magherafelt. There was originally seating for 1,400, with standing room bringing the capacity closer to 2,000.

The Towers Cinema closed in 1976 and was eventually demolished in 1983, along with a number of shops on either side, to make way for a £1.4m extension to the police station, to provide new catering and locker facilities as well as a recreational area and residential accommodation.
