In Ballywalter, County Down, the 1937 through 1948 Kine Year Book’s show the Mid-Ards Cinema with 407 seats. It was operated by John Bell of Ballyalbert and was equipped with a GB-Kalee sound system. By 1953 it had been re-named Tatler Cinema, and rather interestingly, being operated by H. C. Orr of Coventry, England. The films were booked at Kearney Dairy Farm near Portaferry, perhaps another of Mr Orr’s business interests. The Tatler Cinema was still listed in the 1963 K.Y.B, but had gone from listing by 1966. According to the local library the cinema had closed by the 1970’s, and was demolished soon afterwards.
