Star Cinema

In Ramsgate, Kent, Shanly’s Electric Theatre opened in the former St. George’s Hall on 19th December 1910. It was being advertised as Shanly’s Select Theatre by April 1913, and became the Star Cinema by October 1914. Tip-up seats were provided on a single floor.

The Star Cinema had closed by 1927 and the building was converted into the Ramsgate Town Social and Working Men’s Club, which operated until c.1974. The building then became the Star Snooker Centre, with a false ceiling added in the auditorium.

When I visited in April 2018 the Star Snooker signage had been removed and it was unclear whether the building was still in use.
