Electra Cinema

Located in the Parkgate district, north of Rotherham and south of Rawmarsh, South Yorkshire. The Electra Cinema was opened in 1911. It was operated by Heely & Amalgamated Cinemas Ltd. of The Moor, Sheffield. The Electra Cinema was later equipped with a Western Electric(WE) sound system and had an 18 feet wide proscenium.

In 1953, the Electra Cinema is listed in the Kinematograph Year Book as being in Rawmarsh. It had gone from listings by 1963. It was demolished in 1972.

Demolished 1972 according to David Atwell’s book Cathedral of the Movies.

It is important Never to take much notice of the Kine Year Book We found it to be unreliable as it was never really kept up to date by the publishers. Problem also arises when people right books on cinemas they take it as gospel. Apart from running cinemas I did trade in Cinema Equipment
