Regors Cinema

Located in Creswell to the southwest of Worksop, Nottinghamshire. The Regors Cinema was opened on 26th June 1939 with Leslie Howard in “Pygmalion”. It was designed by Worksop based architect J. Haslem in an Art Deco style. It was built in memory of Mr. J.A. Rogers who had operated the Electric Palace which had burnt down in 1938. The name Regors is basically ‘Rogers’ spelt backward. It had a 25 feet wide proscenium and was equipped with a Western Electric(WE) sound system.

The Regors Cinema was equipped with CinemaScope in 1955, and by the mid-1960’s it was operating as a part-time cinema/bingo operation. It closed as a cinema on 17th July 1972 with Arthur Lowe in “Dad’s Army”, and became a full time bingo club which continues today.
