Windsor Theatre

The Windsor Theatre opened around 1929 on Main Street at 25th Avenue East (now King Edward Avenue East) in Vancouver. Famous Players owned the 641-seat single-screen neighborhood venue.

The Windsor Theatre closed around 1955, along with several other Vancouver-area Famous Players neighborhood theatres, due to the rising popularity of television in the city. The theatre building was later demolished and its site is currently vacant.

Recall the day they took the wrecking ball to the Windsor. I was 12 years old at the time. It was sad to see it go. Lived just a half block away on 24th Ave. Infact a neighbour Jack Lucas was the projectionist at the Windsor. Small world my wife’s grandmother was a cleaning lady. Watched many a movie there.
