Sporting a stunning facade, Turin’s largest cinema, with 1,336 seats in its single auditorium, is situated in a small shopping gallery or arcade in the town’s centre. You have to know where it is or accidentally stumble upon it, or you’ll miss it. Opened in 1934 as the Cinema Rex, the seating capacity was provided for 800 in the orchestra stalls and 700 in the balcony. It was later re-named Cinema Dux, then after World War II, it was re-named Cinema Lux
Sadly the Cinema Lux was closed in 2005 ‘for renovation’, it remained a first-run cinema to the end.
The auditorium was gutted and the Cinema Lux re-opened on 20th November 2009. It has now been triplexed with the screens seating 151, 206 and 167. These are located on the first floor, originally the orchestra stalls area. All three screens are equipped with 3D technology.
