A Market Hall was built in Hawes, North Yorkshire about the turn of the 19th/20th Century. In October 1942 the Wensley Cinema Co. was formed “To carry on at Leyburn, Middleham, Hawes and Masham or elsewhere the business of Kinema proprietors”. The Market Hall Cinema in Hawes had a AWH sound system. It is not known when it closed but it still listed in the Kinematograph Year Book of 1966.
The Market Hall is today used as a community centre and hosts a weekly indoor market.
