The New York Theatre opened at 438 E Center on New Year’s Day 1917, reportedly with seating for 800 patrons. On Dec 6, 1917 it was renamed the American Theatre. The last city directory entry for the American was 1925, and the address was shown as 440 E Center.
There is currently a computer store located at 440 E.Center, and records of the City of Pocatello Historic Preservation Commission indicate that this is the original theater building - the most complete and best preserved of the ‘classic’ Pocatello movie theaters.
