In Dalbeattie, Dumfries & Galloway, at the junction of Alpine Street and Mill Street, the Electric Theatre opened in 1930. The proprietor and resident manager was G. Maxwell.
By 1940 the proprietor and resident manager was T. Maxwell, possibly G. Maxwell’s son, and the cinema had been renamed the Picture House. By 1953, the owner was T. Maxwell & Sons.
The Picture House was still open in 1966, but it is not known when the Picture House closed.
By March 2009, when I visited, the building was home to Bryan Gowans Furniture Centre. That business was established in 1971, so it could have occupied this former cinema for many years.
