Lincoln Theatre

The local Kingland newpaper, the Southeast Georgian gave an account of the opening of the Lincoln Theatre in their January 26, 1950 edition:-

“The Lincoln Theatre opened January 18, 1950 on North Lee Street. It is the first theatre in Camden County catering exclusively to colored people. It is located in the concrete block building formerly owned by Dorothy Cody and the project is the latest one of the Odum Brothers Enterprises. With the exception of the manager, the theatre carries an all-colored staff, and is the only one of its kind between Jacksonville and Savannah. Seating capacity for the Lincoln Theatre is about 175.

Whenever possible, Odum Brothers said, films with all negro casts will be shown in the two daily performances. These films are secured from a colored film company organized several years ago in Texas. Reception of the colored population to the new venture has been most favourable, according to the brothers. Performances are scheduled at 4:30 and 7:30pm".
