The Playhouse Theatre opened July 2, 1912, and according to the Weekly Calistogan, the cornerstone read, “The Playhouse built for Crouch and Armstrong by Edw. Brown of Napa, Cal".

The location of the Playhouse Theatre was two buildings away from the Masonic Hall. The Ritz Theatre, which opened in June 1939, was on the other side of the Masonic Hall. Film Daily Year Book 1940 lists the Playhouse Theatre with 240 seats.

The Playhouse Theatre closed May 21, 1940, after being bought by G.W. Page of the Ritz Theatre. In February 1941, Calistogans were glad to hear the news that Dick Pollock, the former manager, would be managing the Ritz Theatre.

Most recently Tanit Pan Asian Cuisine occupies the location.
