Commonwealth Theaters opened the Hillcrest 3 in 1968. In May 1986 the Cannon Group bought Commonwealth’s 425 screens in 12 states, which, at the time made it the sixth largest circuit in the United States.
On October 17, 1986, after being closed for eight weeks, and a million-dollar front to back, top to bottom renovation, the theater became the Hillcrest 5. The two new auditoriums seated 250 and 240.
While operated by Hollywood Theaters as a $1 house, it closed September 27, 1998. According to the Journal World previous operators were Crown Cinema and United Artists.
