The Green-Briar Theatre was built by John F. and LaRue Green and opened on December 27, 1974. The theater had two auditoriums, one with 300 seats for live theater, and another one with 350 seats for movies. Both were connected by a central lobby.
The opening of the theater was the realization of a life-long ambition for the Greens, who had been planning it for five years. They chose West Jordan as the location for the theater because there were no other theaters in the area and because it was the fastest growing area in the Salt Lake valley.
The theater was to provide feature family entertainment, with “nominal admission prices so that families may attend” and no R rated movies.
The theater opened with the stage production “Babes in Toyland”, directed by Winnie Erickson and including John Green in the cast. Upcoming musicals scheduled for the theater were “Star Spangled Girl” and “Bells are Ringing”.
By 1992, the theater closed and was used as an apartment building. The building was later remodeled and expanded as a business.
