Gloria Palast #1

Located in the east of the city centre. In 1929 a ballroom was converted into the Aerztehaus Lichtspiele. The architect was named Rebhahn. In 1939 Moritz Hamburger & Alfred Behr located in Berlin, took over and re-named it Luna Imperator Lichtspiele. In 1936 the Nazi’s closed the cinema because its operators were Jewish.

In 1937 Hermann Kerkhoff took over and re-named the cinema Gloria Palast. It was destroyed in 1943 by Allied bombs during World War II.

A new Gloria Palast #2 was opened in 1949 further along the road and the Gloria Centre #3 was opened in 1974 (both have their own pages on Cinema Treasures).
