Recently toured the building with Angel Rivera, the pastor. Although the building has been renovated, some elements from its theater days still remain. Upstairs, the original ceiling above what was once the balcony was uncovered above a drop ceiling and restored. There is also an old exit door outside, complete with some embossed art pattern that is peeling away. Interesting that this door leads no where inside the building. The former lobby has been split into office space and a Community Outreach Center.
The theater has also been split with a new ceiling cutting away the top half from the bottom. Pictures of the building’s renovation that the Pastor showed me indicate that the basement floor (now a Community Center) sloped upwards from front to back at one time, and must have been the orchestra section of the theater.
Finally the Pastor showed me the architectural appraisal of the building which clearly states that it opened as a movie thater in 1930.
