Located in the Copnor district of Portsmouth, to the east of Portsea Island, the Copnor Electric Theatre opened on 25th July 1911 (another source says 19th July 1911)

It was owned by Mr T. Langdown, but the operating licence changed hands quite rapidly: to Mr F. Champion in November 1912, to The Southsea Electric Theatre Co Ltd in December 1912 and to Mr S. Trivess in July 1913.

By 10th March 1914 the cinema’s name had been shortened to Fratton Electric.

In the 1920’s the licence once again changed hands quite frequently: to Mr Jones in October 1923, to Mr Thorndyke in March 1915 and finally to Mr J. Smithson in October 1929.

The Copnor Electric closed by 26th November 1929. The building was utilised as the foyer for a new, larger cinema, the Tivoli (see separate Cinema Treasures entry).
