Ernest “Leafy” Leafgreen partnered with C.D. Youmans to create the Leafy Theatre which ran from December of 1914 to February of 1920 in downtown Minatare, Nebraska. The Leafy Theatre appears to be associated with the building of the Gauvain Opera House which had also opened in December of 1914 on Main Street. The Leafy Theatre mainly played films but did have sporadic live events.

After closing in 1920, the space was reconfigured for an electronics fixture store. Movie screenings moved to the Opera House turned Grand Theatre. That was followed by the Aladdin Theatre giving the town roughly 43 years of cinema - not bad for a town that at its peak had about 1,000 residents. We believe the former Leafy Theatre building is still standing in the 2020’s.

An item in the December 29, 1917 Motography indicated the film showing at the Leafy was Hell Morgan’s Girl.
