The Douglas Theatre was an African American theatre on Fairmount Avenue that began operation in 1915 as a silent movie house. It was first operated by Edward C. Brown and then Hewitt Bundy. It was equipped with a Hope-Jones organ. The Douglas Theatre was converted to sound to remain viable and, after a refresh, became the New Douglas Theatre operating in the same building. It was closed in 1935 and reopened in the early-1940’s. The New Douglas Theatre went out of business in 1947 and was demolished for a housing project named Angela Court Apartments.
