The Apex Theatre was opened in 1913, named after its location at the apex of the junction with N. 51st Street and Haverford Avenue. It was initially listed with 499 seats.

Around 1936 it was renamed Joy Theatre. By the early 1940’s it was operated by the Wax Circuit. It was closed in 1952. Today the building serves as a church.
