Strand Theatre

The Strand Theatre was a silent movie house that appears to have opened in 1920 by W. George Cook who also had the Temple Theatre. It had an $8,000 pipe organ and was a snug 500-seat venue. When Charles and Anna DePaul merged with Cook in 1924, they closed their Dreamland Theatre leaving the Strand Theatre and Temple Theatre operating. The Colonial Theatre was added in 1926.

The Temple Theatre and the Colonial Theatre were converted to sound operation. Though the Strand Theatre is listed in the 1930’s as open, there isn’t much evidence of it showing films. When the Soo Theatre opened, the Strand Theatre was sold and became a garage from 1940 to 1953. In 1953, the building was razed to build a motel.
