The opening of Cardenden's Gothenburg Picturedrome circa 1910

Located in Cardenden, Fifeshire. It opened in 1910 possibly as a concert hall, similar to the Gothenburg Hall in Kelty (another mining village like Cardenden) was before turning to cinema.

Not much else is known about this cinema except it was part of the Bowhill Public House Society Ltd, one of many temperance based organisations that sprang up in Scotland. The idea being to control drinking and use the profits to provide community benefits. By 1937 it had been equipped with a Western Electric(WE) sound system and has a 28ft wide proscenium

The Picturedrome was still open in 1969, but had closed by 1980. It has long since been demolished but is visible/listed on old maps of the area. and a photo of the opening night exists.
