Located on Main Street near the Telephone Exchange in Coatbridge, North Lanarkshire to the East of Glasgow. The Empire Theatre was opened as a variety theatre in October 1912. It had 1,200-seats.

In 1920 it was taken over by George Singleton and reopened as a cinema. By 1930 it had been equipped with a Western Electric(WE) sound system and the proscenium was 24ft wide. It was taken over by the Oscar Deutsch chain of Odeon Theatres Ltd. in 1938 and renamed Odeon. The seating capacity was reduced to 1,140-seats, with 844-seats in the stalls and 296-seats in the balcony. The seating capacity was further reduced to 1,018-seats in the 1950’s when CinemaScope was installed.

The Odeon was closed by the Rank Organisation on 8th May 1971. It was sold to Burgh on 19th October 1970 and was demolished. Shops were built on the site.
