Located in the Newtown district to the south of the city centre, on the south corner of Riddiford Street and Constable Street. The building was formerly a hotel which was converted into Our Theatre, opening on 11th December 1916 with “The Pretenders”, a Metro film. The conversion was done to the plans of architect J.M. Dawson. Seating was provided for 500 in the stalls and 332 in the dress circle.

The first ‘talkie’ to be screened was “Marianne” starring Marion Davies on 27th August 1930. At some unknown date it was renamed Ascot Theatre. Always independently operated, it was closed on 24th October 1976.

The ground floor of the building has been converted into retail use and also houses a cafe. The upstairs section now operates as offices for the AI Homes estate agents.
