Branson's IMAX Entertainment Complex

The Ozark IMAX and Elite Cinemas are quite unique. Opened in 1993 with the IMAX theatre seating 532. In August 2001 the 3-screen Elite Cinemas were opened, with seating for 750, for a total seating of 1,082 seats in the complex.

Built in one large building in a village style format. The building not only contains the IMAX and Cinemas but a small shopping mall that contains 16 different specialty shops. It also contains a food court and a regular sit down restaurant feturing down home country style foods. There is also a small 210 seat live theatre called the Little Opry Theatre, with country music and comedy. The entire Village is geared to all ages and is a big part of the shopping and entertainment atmosphere of Branson, Mo.

Nice theatres, but the IMAX has crummy choice in screening IMAX films. The DMR’s and 3-D films never come, the 3-D films do show in flat versions, the big releases never show (you either have drive to Kansas City or Omaha for the big stuff) and they do the 35mm on IMAX showings touting them as on the IMAX screen (they recently showed Flightplan and Zathura for longer than most theatres). Hopefully, the Springfield one in development gets these big IMAX flicks we starve for.

Also, Chuck’s information is incorrect. The IMAX theatre was built first. The Elite Cinema III was later added and opened on August 17th, 2001. The premiere features were American Outlaws, Dr. Dolittle 2 and Osmosis Jones (I think).

This place is great…we like to spend all day here. Just saw “The Grey” on the giant IMAX. They also show Hollywood movies on the big screen. You can buy food from the food court and take into the movie.
