Located in the north Yorkshire seaside resort of Scarborough. The Scarborough Aquarium was on the underside of the Spa Bridge on Valley Road. It was opened by Eugenious Birch in 1877. Designed in a Indo-Moorish style, as well as aquarium tanks, the building contained a concert hall, a reading room, a dining room and Japanese Theatre. In 1893 a swimming bath was added. In 1907 the 1,100-seat Aquarium Theatre was added and in 1909 a skating rink completed the facility.

In 1910 the Aquarium Theatre was granted a Cinematograph Licence and began screening films. It was soon renamed People’s Palace and Aquarium. But when World War I began in 1914 it became unsolvent which heralded the end of the building complex as an entertainment venue and it was soon closed.

It was taken over by Scarborough Borough Council and was renamed Galaland, operating as an entertainment complex from 1925 until closing in 1966. It was later demolished. Today the South Bay Underground Car Park is on the site.
