Liberty Theatre

Located at S. Jefferson Street and E. Main Street. This theatre appears on the 1919 Sanborn, in a large one story brick building which had been built sometime after 1914. Much of the structure was a dealership, but the theatre was fairly spacious.

Likely a case of too many people trying to enter the field in a short time, this was not a success and closed in 1923. The 1928 map shows this space divided into two stores, with an auto repair business at the rear.

The building survived at least until 2018 as part of a local college, with a bland and unattractive dryvit makeover. The latest satellite images show this entire half of the block has become a ‘park’.
