Located in Sibiu, in the Transylvanian region of Romania, the Cinema Roxy opened on 19th October 1933 in the former dance hall of Restaurant Thomas, owned by Melania Cengari.
In 1938, under the management of Ioan Mânzat, it was renamed Cinema Rio. In 1943 the cinema was closed temporarily after a fire. On 3rd November 1948 it was nationalised, and the following year it was renamed yet again, this time to Cinema Arta.
In 1967 Cinema Arta closed when the building was deemed unsafe. Presumably it was soon demolished: Strada Faulurui itself appears to have been lost to re-development.
However, Cinema Arta continued, by taking over an existing cinema in Strada Tribunei (see separate Cinema Treasures entry).
