Ion Besoiu Cultural Centre

Located in Sibiu, in the Transylvanian region of Romania, the House of Culture of the Trade Unions was built in 1973. There are two auditoriums: the Great Hall (which had 760 seats) and the Small Hall (with 109 seats), and also the Venetia Hall (a multi-purpose space that can accommodate up to 250 people). It is not known to what extent either or both of the auditoriums were used for film shows in the hall’s earlier days.

In 2017-2018 the building was completely renovated and, from 1st June 2018, it was renamed the Ion Besoiu Cultural Centre, after the famous Romanian actor and director, who died in 2017.

The Centre covers an area of 3,000 square metres, and is the largest event space in Sibiu. It hosts many cultural and corporate shows, and films are currently a regular feature of its programming, principally in the Small Hall (which still has 109 seats, while the Great Hall now seats 508). Both have 3D capability. The Venetia Hall continues to host a variety of functions and events.
