Cinema Mărăști

Mărăști is one of the largest housing districts in Cluj-Napoca, a city in north-western Romania (the unofficial capital of the Transylvanian region). The district was developed between 1970 and 1989 for workers at the CUG heavy machinery plant.

Cinema Mărăști opened (date not known, but before 1989) as the district grew. Unfortunately, it appears to have become rather rundown fairly quickly and it closed. It is not known when that took place, but, by 2011, when it was refurbished and re-opened as more of a cultural centre, it had been closed for “several years”.

There are approximately 200 seats, and 3D films can be screened. Other spaces are used by community groups - these are not thought to be former cinema auditoriums.
