Picturedrome (I)

Located on the Eastside of the city centre. The Picturedrome was opened on 25th February 1911. It had a white exterior that contained an open domed cupula. It was designed by Liverpool based architectural firm Campbell & Fairhurst. Inside the auditorium there were 1,00-seats, all on a single floor. In 1928 additions designed by architect Robert Sharpe Hill were carried out and he was also responsible for alterations in 1930 following a fire and for the construction of a shelter for waiting patrons. It was wired for sound in 1931.

The Picturedrome was closed in 1934 and was demolished to build a new Art Deco style Picturedrome, which has its own page on Cinema Treasures.
