Based on information in the NRHP listing for the Avery Theatre, the Lyric Theatre was located in a building constructed in 1883, and which was located at State Street and 4th Street. This must have been an old wooden two-story structure on the SW corner of that intersection.

The 1900 map shows it broken up into three businesses on the ground floor, with a hall on the second. By 1907, it was used exclusively as a hall. It is unclear when it became a theatre, but by the 1920’s, it was the sole theatre in town, replacing the far more substantial opera house one block north, which had operated as the Electric Theatre (it has its own page on Cinema Treasures).

The Lyric Theatre closed in October of 1930, leaving Garner without a theatre, and accelerating planning for what became the Avery Theatre (it has its own page on Cinema Treasures). It was converted to a roller rink, but was destroyed in a fire in January of 1931. The site today is the city library.
