Rialto Theatre

This theatre appears on the 1916 Sanborn, in the western storefront of the Opera House Block, a large two story brick building likely constructed around 1900. The Opera House itself occupied the second floor.

This theatre remained in operation on the 1923 map, and was still open in 1931 but by 1935 this space is unlabeled. It was used as retail or offices for many years, but appears to be vacant. The October 2023 streetview shows that the building may be under renovation.

In 1923, Rialto manager James Nester had a capsule movie review published in the March 24 issue of Exhibitors Herald. Nester thought the one reel Universal release “Unfermented Bricks” with Neeley Edwards a “fair comedy” that could have been better, though he allowed that his theater’s patrons “seemed pleased” with the offering.
