Stanley Theatre

The Stanley Theatre opened by 1914, in the Windsor Park area of the South Shore neighborhood. It was located on E. 79th Street, between S. Commercial Avenue and S. Coles Avenue, and sat around 300.

After closing as a movie theatre by July 1951, the building served for years as a popular steakhouse, Alexander’s, which has since closed and been demolished, along with the rest of the block it stood at, replaced by a large parking lot.

Can’t seem to find this on a map, but this seems to have been demolished in 2001.

The Stanley must have closed by July of 1951, since a Chicago Tribune article dated July 21st talks about an American Legion post making the former theater its new home.
