The Luna Theatre, which opened in 1916 as the Mission Theatre, with just under 400 seats, remains in operation on Main Street in Clayton. It has had the same owners for two decades, who saved the theater from certain doom. The Mission style exterior, and the interior, with its Art Deco style touches, has been painstakingly restored and refurbished over the years, including all new projection equipment.
Originally, in the basement of the Luna Theatre was a grand ballroom, the Mission Ballroom, which later was converted into a long-gone roller rink.
The owners hope to eventually replace the neon on the Deco marquee, including a “winking” moon face. The beautiful Luna won the New Mexico Heritage Preservation Award in 2001.

Here is an April 2009 photo.
Another 2009 photo is here.
What this country needs is more signs with winking moon faces. (Among other things.)
We will try to find you some more………
Don…
Don, they really did a great renovation on the Luna, thanks for the photos.
I ran the projectors at this theater. My grandfather w.h.murphy was manager. What memories those photos brought back!
