The Michigan Theater was demolished about two years ago, and several single family houses have been built on the site.
Address was 7226 Michigan(at Robert).
Opened Christmas Day, 1924.
During construction Fred Wehrenberg bought the theatre and house was always part of his circuit.
One floor theatre, single screen, stage, capacity 1200.
During the latter years and up until its closing the Michigan operated in Friday, Saturday and Sunday’s only.
This is a photo of the Michigan Theater.
LM, the theatre looked pretty much the same right up until it closed.
Judging by the photo, it was a nice looking theater on the outside. It had an unusual looking marquee.
I grew up a few blocks from this theater and went there every weekend for years. When I was in grade school all of us kids went there every Sunday afternoon for the double feature.
I should also mention that the kids there had necking contests and I won once. They had a soda machine in the lobby that dropped a paper cup down and filled up with soda. For a quarter you could see two movies, get popcorn and a soda. Great memories
