Brooklyn Savoy demolition imminent
BROOKLYN, NY — After years as a church, the Thomas Lamb-designed Savoy Theatre has its days numbered. There is no word yet on exactly when but there are currently ‘rat bait’ warning signs on the building, which should kill all the rodents within, and stop them running to neighboring building once demolition commences.

Commack Multiplex demolished
COMMACK, NY — The former Commack Multiplex Cinemas is no more after being torn down recently for a Lowe’s store. The theatre struggled due to neighboring competition and had been in decline for years.

Long closed Fenton Cinemas sold and will be torn down
FENTON, MI — The long closed Fenton Cinemas, closed since 2008, has been sold to its neighbor, Creative Foam and will be torn down. Plans for the site call for a possible expansion to the business. Earlier plans to reopen the theater last year along with the potential ownership change and possible reopening have all fell through.

Arson determined as cause of fire that severely damaged Parma Theater
PARMA, OH — After closing two months ago, the Parma Theatre suffered a fire two weeks ago. It’s now been brought to light that the fire was intentionally set.

Former American Theater razed
LEETONIA, OH — After almost 100 years with the past few decades in darkness, the American Theatre was razed. The asbestos contamination proved to be the last straw.

Adirondac summer cinema closes and will be demolished; dates to 1926
INLET, NY — What local historians consider the first Quonset-type movie theater in the country, the Tamarack Movie House is set to the be torn down. It closed Labor Day Weekend after years of declining revenue and they plan to build a video arcade, miniature golf course and restaurant on the site.

Remains of former RC Pittsburgh West 12 to be converted to used car superstore
ROBINSON, PA — The former Showcase Cinemas West will become a hotel a used car dealership. The theatre closed two and a half years ago after 32 years in business.

Galaxy Cinema may be demolished
CARY, NC — It’s looking like the Galaxy Cinema will be no more thanks to a developer’s plan to level the theatre for a supermarket. The six-screen art house has built quite the reputation as a hub for Bollywood films in the area.

Art Van Furniture buys former movie theater near Toledo
HOLLAND, OH — Art Van Furniture has purchased the site of the former Super Cinemas and now waiting on approval to raze it. They’re projecting their new store to open next spring.
