Theater closed since 2005 gets $4 million makeover
HENDERSON, NV — Galaxy is now planning to reopen the former Green Valley Theatres in March, following a $4 Million upgrade. The theatre that’s been closed since 2005 is applying for an alcohol permit and will feature motorized, reclining chairs with footrests.

Former Meridian 6 in Okemos MI being renovated to Studio C
OKEMOS, MI — The former AMC Meridian 6 Theatres outside the Meridian Mall is being renovated by the Celebration! Cinema theater chain to become the Studio C combination restaurant and movie theater which is slated to open on December 14.

Seattle’s Columbia City Cinema will reopen in 2012 as the Ark Lodge Cinemas
SEATTLE, WA — The former Columbia City Cinema is going back to its roots when it reopens as the Ark Lodge Cinemas next year. The new owner is renovating the theatre that closed last year and adding digital projection.

70-year-old Marion Theater closes, will reopen under new owner
OCALA, FL — The Marion Theater has a new owner again after word got out that Carmike wanted to leave the property. Local operator Cesar Soto has stepped in and plans to reopen it next month following the addition of a new projector and screen.

City Council sees ‘jewel’ in uptown’s old Carolina Theatre
CHARLOTTE, NC — The future is looking bright for the Carolina Theatre after a series of recent proposals for its reuse. One is to transform the space into a civic meeting while another proposal would use it as a performance venue.

Michael Moore’s theatre gets $125,000 upgrade aid
TRAVERSE CITY, MI — The State Theatre has received a $125,000 grant for renovations courtesy of CMS Energy Corp. It will be used to repair the exterior of the theatre, known as the home of the Traverse City Film Festival.

Residents leading effort to restore long-closed Westmont Theater to live performance venue
WESTMONT, IL — Local groups are trying to raise money to renovate the Westmont Theatre. They’ve already put together $800,000 but need $400,000 more to reach their goal. The town has a rich music history and wants to make the venue available again for live performances.

Former Red Vic may get a partial return to theatrical use
SAN FRANCISCO, CA — The Red Vic will open its doors again after closing last summer. This time though, it’s not going to be entirely a movie theatre. While there will be a performance space in back, most of the building will be occupied by retail “incubator” stalls.

Ninety-nine-year-old Alhambra Theater still draws crowds in spite of need for major renovations
EVANSVILLE, IN — Locals are behind the return of the Alhambra Theater by supporting a successful film series this past summer where movies were projected on its outside wall. An arts fair last weekend was centered around raising money for the multi-million dollar renovations that are necessary to bring the 99 year-old theatre back to code.

RC Theaters acquires, renames former Destinta Theater
MIDDLETOWN, CT — RC Theatres has taken over the former Destina and renamed it Metro Movies. They’re undergoing renovations but trying to keep it simple with solid presentation and concessions.
