Group hopes to restore Orpheum
CHATHAM, MA — In honor of Chatham’s 300th Anniversary next year, the newly-formed Orpheum Theatre Project is looking to raise money to renovate the Orpheum Theatre back to life. Open since 1916, it has spent the last 25 years as a number of different pharmacies. The hope is to build a new 50 seat art-house cinema and a 160 seat main theatre in its place.

State funds allow Colonial Theatre to expand
PHOENIXVILLE, PA — Thanks to the Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program, the Colonial Theatre has received $250,000 in state funding. They’ll use the money to expand and make the theatre a more viable option for a variety of entertainment.

Railroad Square Cinema falls on hard times
WATERVILLE, ME — Autumn has typically been a slow time for the Railroad Square Cinema but this year is off the charts. They’re now aggressively trying to sell memberships to the theatre to raise revenue and keep their independent/foreign films program going.

Red Vic to become food startup space
SAN FRANCISCO, CA — Shuttered this past summer, the Red Vic could be making a comeback. Not as a movie house this time but as a pseudo test kitchen for area chefs.

Seattle Film Festival’s new home opens
SEATTLE, WA — As reported in August, the Seattle Film Festival reopened the Uptown Cinemas. KUOW News reports that the festival now has offices and classrooms blocks away with the entire campus recently opening to the public for the festival.

Reviving the Uptown Theatre?
CHICAGO, IL — The Chicago Tribune is reporting chatter on the possibility of something finally happening with the Uptown Theater. Abandoned for just about 30 years now, there’s hope that the new mayor will rally behind a restoration.

Fixing the Pix
NAMPA, ID — It was a small step but a notable one. Recently the marquee at the long vacant Pix Theatre listed the website for its fundraising arm, the Pix Foundation. They hope to raise $65,000 to buy the theatre and complete the renovations that have been slowly creeping ahead for years due to setbacks from a storm.

Tampa Theatre: Still cool at 85
TAMPA, FL — The Tampa Theatre is still charging ahead, even while in the midst of a renovation project. They continue to show films and offer live concerts but they’re working on redoing the lighting and plaster around the stage.

Denis Theatre’s rebirth moves forward
MOUNT LEBANON, PA — Work continues on raising the funds necessary to revive the Denis Theatre. They’ve already raised $1M but need 1.5 more to complete the project.
