Could Varsity rise again as a theater?
PALO ALTO, CA — One of the more interesting conversion-styles of the past twenty years, theater->bookstore could be reversed in Palo Alto if some locals have their way. The Borders in the Varsity Theatre has closed so they’re pushing for it to become a theater again. Whether this is even feasible is still up for debate.

Park Theatre restoration moves closer to reality
JAFFREY, NH — Thanks to support from all over the area, the Park Theatre is closer to reopening after years in darkness. It will still be at least a year before construction begins but they are well on their way to raising the millions needed for the work.

Director hopes to re-open Utah Theatre late this fall
LOGAN, UT — The Utah Festival Opera is hoping to raise another $2 Million to re-open the Utah Theatre. They want to build a fly system so they can use the space for live performances as well as movies.

Renewed Joy in New Orleans
NEW ORLEANS, LA — Closed since 2003, there is finally some good news for the Joy Theatre. According to WWL TV, the Joy Theatre has been purchased and will be renovated and reopened for music, film, comedy, and other live entertainment in early 2012.

Broad Entertainment to sign loan for theater renovation
SOUDERTON, PA — The Souderton Independent is reporting that the Broad Theatre will be receiving $5 Million renovation to be funded by donations and a local bank. The timeline is still up in the air but hopefully the work will be completed for the borough’s 125th Anniversary next year.

Boyd Theatre to be closed the rest of year
BETHLEHEM, PA — The Bethlehem Patch is reporting that the Boyd Theatre will unfortunately be closed for the rest of the year due to water damage from a couple months ago. The good news is this extra time will allow them to make some improvements and modifications.
They’re currently seeking recommendations on things they can do to make it a more viable venue. Their commitment to making it a place for more than just movies will hopefully ensure its health in the future.

Curtain to rise on revived Kiggins
VANCOUVER, WA — After we reported a few months ago of the nearby Liberty Theatre reopening, it’s now time for the Kiggins to roll out the red carpet. Thanks to community support, there will hopefully be more improvements on the way.

Vacant Park Theatre may turn to retail, residential lofts
LINCOLN PARK, MI — According to the News Herald, the Park Theatre is slated to be gutted and redeveloped for low income housing. Not the ideal reuse but a reuse nonetheless. The facade will be restored to its former grandeur at least.
