Michaan’s not renewing theater lease
ALAMEDA, CA — Allen Michaan lovingly restored Auctions by the Bay after leasing it ten years ago but it’s never been particularly profitable for him. Now the hero theater owner is backing away from the property, putting it back in the hands of the city. While he hopes it will continue to be a community resource, it’s unclear how someone could make a feasible business out of it.

Ultra-modern movie theater centerpiece of upscale development in Richmond
RICHMOND, TX — The 100 year-old Santikos Theatres is expanding into the Houston market with a new multiplex. Besides the usual upscale amenities like oversized screens and plush seats, the theatre will also be built in a Greek Renaissance-style with 130-foot ceilings in the lobby.

Ezat Delijani, L.A. developer, philanthropist dies
LOS ANGELES, CA — Ezat Delijani, owner of numerous Broadway theaters like the Los Angeles, Palace, State and Tower, passed away over the weekend. If it weren’t for him, who knows if these theaters would have ever been saved.

Drive-ins are family affair
HENDERSON, NC — Brought together through an AOL dating site, Jim and Megan Kopp now split their time between their two drive-ins in neighboring states, the Raleigh Road and Family Drive-in. It isn’t always easy, but it’s definitely a labor of love for these two.
