Small town rallies to save the Scenic Theater
LISBON, ND — Evan a city of 2,000 can save a theater. Locals came together in a big way to generate over $100,000 for a digital conversion of the Scenic Theater. Over 300 individual donations and a grant from the United States Department of Agriculture pushed them over the edge and ensured the theatre would be there for years to come.

New Galaxy Cinema opens in Sarnia replacing Lambton 9
SARNIA, ONTARIO, CANADA — Canada’s Cineplex opened a new state of the art cinema last month which which replaces the Famous Players Lambton 9 which closed upon the opening of the new cinema. The new Galaxy Cinemas Sarnia boasts eight screens which total nearly 1,600 seats with the latest cinema innovations.

Next steps for Warner Film Center
NEW CASTLE, PA — The Warner Film Center project is gaining steam at the former Cascade Picture Palace. A 20-year lease was signed for the space last week and they aim to open Phase I in February on the Anniversary of theater’s opening.

Community saves Page Theatre
PAGE, ND — After placing the call for help in December, the community surrounding the Page Theatre showed up big time by contributing almost $100K for a digital projector. The volunteer-run theatre is now set for a while and requires even less help to run it.

Grander propositions close Hollywood Cinemas
KENNER, LA — Kenner residents will have to wait until the Grand Cinema opens later this year to have a theatre back with the closing of Hollywood Cinemas 9. Its owner decided to shutter it as opposed to paying for upgrades to compete with the new all-digital cinema.

Abandoned school building becomes cinema
DETROIT, MI — What used to be Burton International School is now Cass City Cinema through a unique case of adaptive reuse. It was a natural solution given the building’s history as a cinema and it’s just one of many spaces in the area that had to change its identity due to hard times.

Central Cinema kickstarts to stay indie, go digital
SEATTLE, WA — The Central Cinema has launched a Kickstarter campaign to raise $60,000 for a digital projector. They also held an 80’s Sing Along last weekend in a quest to get their fans involved in ensuring the theatre’s future.

Historic Wickenburg movie theater hopes to reel in funds
WICKENBURG, AZ — The Saguaro Theatre stands proud as one of the oldest single-screen theaters in the state. It may not last much longer if they can’t raise $50,000 by February for a digital projector. They’ve launched a fundraising for the 270-seat theatre, the only one for miles.
