Saenger set to come back better than ever
NEW ORLEANS, LA — The restoration of the Saenger Theatre is coming closer to completion as it moves towards and October re-opening to present “Book of Mormon”. They’re sparing no expense as they painstakingly recreate the look of the theatre from its 20’s heyday.

Community puts movie theater in digital age
EATONVILLE, WA — The Roxy’s call for help has been answered as the community came together to raise $34,000 for digital equipment. The owners have contributed the rest and the new projector was already in place for the Memorial Day Weekend.

North Park Theatre won’t be going dark
BUFFALO, NY — Dipson may be leaving the picture but there’s still more life for the North Park Theatre. Its owner and a local restaurant owner are joining forces to keep the theatre open and present art-house films. There’s no official word on any renovations but they are aware of the challenges in making it a viable cinema for years to come.

Delay in opening Westwood luxury movie theater
LOS ANGELES, CA — The lengthy project to re-open the former AMC Avco as another location for the high-end chain, iPic, has hit another snag. LA Observed claims an asbestos issue will likely prevent anything short of a 2014 opening.

Wal Mart donates $1,500 to Chamber for ADA Hearing at Fiske
OAK GROVE, LA — If not being able to hear or see clearly has been your reason you have not been getting out of the house and enjoy movies at the Fiske Theatre in Oak Grove, that is no longer and excuse, as the Oak Grove Wal Mart and Manager John Wimsatt have funded the installation of the most advanced hearing and visual assistance system that is currently being deployed in cinemas across the nation.
“It has always been part of Wal Mart’s mission to give back to the community,” Wimsatt said. “This is just one small way we could make an impact in our community and one that the people could actually see and feel.”

Cinemark to build 14-screen movie theater at Carson mall
CARSON, CA — Cinemark is breaking ground on a 14-screen theatre at the South Bay Pavilion mall. They plan to open it by the end of next year and it will feature the latest digital equipment along with one of their signature Cinemark XD, 72-foot screens.

Cabot Street Cinema in Beverly for sale
BEVERLY, MA — The Cabot Street Cinema has played host to all kinds of entertainment in its almost 100 years of existence like vaudeville, film and magic shows. Its next chapter is uncertain though as its owners now have it on the market for $1.35 Million. The downtown cinema has played a pivotal role in the neighborhood so a future for it is essential.

Church breathes new life into Pensacola landmark
PENSACOLA, Fl — The Harvest Outreach Church is reopening the Rex Theatre after 20 plus years without a commercial tenant. While they plan to hold services there Saturday night, it’ll be available to the community the rest of the week. They also plan on renovating the marquee and redoing the seats.

Social media gets in on the pre-show
Long the territory of straight advertisements, Twitter and Foursquare are teaming up with National Cinemedia to make pre-show features more interactive. It sounds like there will still be ads in one form or another but they’ll be served up as engagement opportunities with social media.
