Pantages shops naming rights
HOLLYWOOD, CA — Following in the footsteps of the TCL Chinese Theatre down the block, the Pantages is selling its naming rights. They’re giving Front Row Marketing Services sixth to find a buyer.

Hotel bar plays tribute to original Vitascope Hall
NEW ORLEANS, LA — The Hyatt Regency New Orleans has a bar called Vitascope Hall in honor of the city’s first for-profit cinema of the same name that opened in 1896. To celebrate the theatre’s anniversary, they screened silent classics on their tv’s last week.

Midtown Cinema continues to build on its mission
HARRISBURG, PA — Rumors were swirling months ago that the end was near for the Midtown Cinema when they let go of some long time managers. However, the owners have made a substantial investment in bringing the theatre up to today’s standards and the new team is seeking advice from the community on what kind of programming and amenities they’d prefer. It looks like the downtown fixture will continue to be integrated into an increasingly vibrant local arts scene.

Alamo Drafthouse will reopen the former Rave CityPlace 14 in Kalamazoo in October
KALAMAZOO, MI— Alamo Drafthouse Cinemas is renovating the former Rave CityPlace 14 and has announced that they will reopen the renovated cinema in October 2013. They already have an official web site for the new Alamo Drafthouse Kalamazoo at with Facebook and Twitter links. It will be Alamo Drafthouse’s first location in Michigan.

HENDERSON, NV — Galaxy Theatres has had such success with is Green Valley Theatres location that their expanding their luxury brand to North Las Vegas. Their Cannery will be updated to their Luxury+ standards with fully-reclining plush seats.

Forgotten Pasadena theater
PASADENA, CA — Hometown Pasadena featured a great piece by Sheryl Peters of Pasadena Museum of History about the never built Mission Theater. It focuses on an entrepreneur named Mrs. Fenyes that got very close to building it but it never came to fruition. Complete with blueprints, the story gives an intimate look at the process of purchasing land and building a theater 100 years ago.

New life for the Royal 3
LE MARS, IA — The future of the Royal 3 Cinemas was up in the air as its owner dealt with legal issues but Main Street Theatres is stepping in to save the day. The Omaha, NE operator has taken over the theatre for the time being and it will be run like their other cinemas with their active rewards program as well.

Digital films could drop curtain on drive-ins
FAIRLEEE & MONTPELIER, VT — An article at WCAX looked at how some local Vermont theaters are dealing with the switch to digital. The Fairlee Motel & Drive-In is mulling their options as they decide whether the risk of making a huge investment is worth it. The owners of the Capitol made the jump but after spending $750,000 to convert all their theaters.
