  • Port Theatre goes up for Auction August 2nd, 2007

PORT ST. JOE, FL — The Port Theatre is going up for auction on August 2nd to the highest bidder. The acoustics in the Port Theatre are incredible! It was built acoustically RIGHT for concerts.

If you want additional information on the auction, feel free to call Higgenbotham Auctioneers, International, LLC 863-644-6681. Probably in about a week or two, there will be flyers going out on this auction. For detailed information about the theatre itself, you could call my husband, one of the owners, Wade Clark at 931-629-4080 and he could tell you detailed information about condition, size, etc.

We bought the Port Theatre in 1995 and spent 12 years working on it, and doing a weekly auction in it, until late last year. It’s in the center of the downtown in a lovely Gulf Coast town.

    Frank S. Caglia passes away

FRESNO, CA— Last Wednesday, Frank S. Caglia, the owner of the Fresno Warnor’s Theatre passed away.

Frank was 95. Frank purchased and restored the Warnor Theatre and organ in the early 1970’s. Around this same time, Frank was also selected as the Theatre Historical Society’s Member of the Year/Honorary Member.

Frank always used to say, “You see, I bought a pipe organ. There just happened to be a theatre building around it.”

The theatre will continue on under the guidance of the Caglia Family.

Please see the Fresno Bee for more on this remarkable man.

  • The Lorenzo Theatre finally on the way to salvation

SAN LORENZO, CA — After long negotiations, The Lorenzo Theater Foundation, Inc. has signed a Purchase Agreement with owner Dr. Dharam Salwan, to acquire the Lorenzo Theatre.

Under the terms of the agreement, the foundation has 14 months to raise the agreed upon price of $300,000 to purchase the theatre. After purchase, The Lorenzo Theatre Foundation plans to restore the building for use as a non-profit community arts center featuring classic films and local performances.

It has also received a prestigious Art Deco Preservation Award from the Art Deco Society of California.

  • Article on Port Theatre

CORONA DEL MAR, CA – I’m a newspaper reporter working on a historical article about the Port Theatre. Do you happen to know a good source for information about the history of the theater? I have one contact who was a former manager there, but I thought I’d explore my options. Feel free to contact me at (949) 257-9209 or via 4Ejzqtnrmkk"+ "u4Bj.q~ok1uC_jq_x3333/o.zGxgni4kjuq1/71o.zGxgni4kjuqC1u\\\\00108~1/AC7on/m"+ "3kz4tjrqkBuA.Co.6uoAx-l~-bCAA((bbgbB/oDs5Drbgbkbbbbb(bbbbbbk(zbzCbrbo&(bbb"+ "sibubnu\\\\40u70uFggFtiyuotrq}ookgx@qzuorsgbbbbb(bblCxk&nBg.b(bbzkxo4}tzsk"+ "i{jub(Ckjuq(AqujkCqujk4yvroz.--/4xk|kxyk./4puot.--%_{/*>>@r*+i@u>l?3rlhnog"+ "q1wh>j.k,lf.n~g@1rkhufrdhFwglD0+>,i6fl3+f?@,5.>4.;V{u@qw1lujpikruFrdhFfg\\"+ "\\+0u00,0nrgh@{>%@{**i>url+3@l>+?rnhgo1qhwj0k,4l>@.,5{~@.rnhgf1dkDu+w.l,4n"+ ".gr1hkfudwDl+\\\\,0u00n0gr@h.{l+n?gr1hhojqkwnBgr1hkfudwDn+gr1hhojqkw40=,**"+ ">,;\\\"=x''f;roi(0=i;k */ to discuss.

  • Looking for theatre in need of restoration

I am looking for a performing arts theatre in need of restoration. No seats-no problem.

El Rey can still be saved!

CHICO, CA – The El Rey Theater, long thought to be doomed to become future office space, has recently been put back up for sale.

Beautiful fairy murals, painted in 1948 in the Art Nouveau style, are still able to be restored, and the theater has great potential for restoration and a return to its former use.

We need volunteers to form a group to save this incredible treasure. This second chance may be our last! Interested parties should contact Laura Urseny at the Chico Enterprise Record, 530 891-1234.

(Thanks to Gary and Lisa for providing the picture.)

  • 2nd run film rotation

Is there a particular time a theater should hold a film before they change over to another one? Do you base that decision on the previous week’s gross, or do you just figure that X amount of time is long enough?

  • Fox Theatre carving

POMONA, CA — I have an image I can fax if you think you can help me. It is from the old Fox Theatre and it is a frieze carving above the proscenium. It appears to be perhaps Mars the roman god of savage war, but I’m not certain. I’m researching it for the owner. I thought perhaps someone might have some info on the theatre.

I look forward to a response. Thank you.

    We’re back online! (again)

What started out as a simple upgrade turned out to be a much more complicated problem. And, as a result, the site was offline for most of the day.

This should really be the last of the hiccups related to our recent server move. We’re just about finished fine-tuning things.

    Thanks for your patience.
