We’re moving to a new server!
I’m very excited to announce that Cinema Treasures is moving to a new home tomorrow.
Why are we moving?
Well, as you know, our website has been quite sluggish for over a year, even as we worked very hard to upgrade and optimize our server. (It doesn’t help that our traffic doubled during the same time period.)But, since our traffic is still growing every month, we’ve outgrown our current server, and it’s time to move Cinema Treasures to a more powerful (and expensive) server.
Will the site work during the move?
Probably not. Once we switch over, the old website will be disabled to prevent new comments or theater submissions from being lost. When will the site return?
It’s hard to say, but our best guess is within 24 hours. Possibly much shorter, but we won’t really know until it happens. What time will the transfer begin?
Thursday, at approximately 3pm Pacific.…
We’ll do our best to ease the pain of migrating, but do expect some bumps on the road.
Given the complexity of the transfer, please be aware that you may not be able to access Cinema Treasures for up to 24 hours.
Best,
Patrick….
UPDATE: Looks like we’re switched over! Everything seems to be working well, except email (this will probably take another day or two). Please post your comments/feedback below.

Twin Hi-Way Drive-In to reopen
MCKEES ROCKS, PA — I just saw on this morning’s news that the Twin Hi-Way Drive-in will reopen at the beginning of June. The most recent article i can find is this one frome February!!!
The Twin Hi-Way will be the third drive-in theater in the western suburbs when it opens this spring, joining the Dependable in Moon and the Kane Road in Hopewell.
That doesn’t worry Jerry Salnoris, president of the company formed to run the drive-in. “I’ve looked at the demographics,” he said. “There’s enough business there for all of us.”
He also believes there is a resurgence of interest in drive-ins, part of a retro movement in America.
“People long for the times of long ago,” he said. “Drive-ins are part of that nostalgia.”

BRONX, NY: New theater planned
The NY Post reported the other day of plans for a new multiplex in the northwest Bronx on Broadway at West 230th Street in the borough’s Marble Hill neighborhhod. The chain was not identified, but many months back, The Bronx Review press reported that developer Bernard Rosensheim of Westchester County had an agreement with National Amusements to open at that site.
There is also talk of another theater as part of a possible retail project at the site of the former Kingsbridge Armory on Jerome Avenue just above Fordham Road. It was used for stages recently for films “I Am Legend” and “The Hard Way' years back.

Incredible History of the Academy Theater
INGLEWOOD, CA — I have just completed a magnificent book entitled “The Incredible History of the Academy Theater”. It is a coffee table book with more than 60 vintage photos. It shows the correlation between S. Charles Lee, Charles Skouras, Julius Schulman and Rev. Doyle Hart – four men with incredible vision.
The book also has a copy of the original program from the premiere of “Another Thin Man” held at the Academy on November 9, 1939. There is also a photo of William Powell and Myrna Loy in the lobby and much much more.
If you would like to pre-order a copy or attend the invitation only reception which will be held in the lobby of the Academy, .

Happy 30th, Star Wars!
Thirty years ago today, “Star Wars” was released.
As many of us know by now, “Star Wars” opened in 32 theatres on that fateful day in May of 1977, plus 11 more on the 26th & 27th of May bringing its first-week total to 43. So, is the legend true that 20th Century-Fox could find only a mere 43 venues to open their movie, or did Fox believe all along that they had a huge, history-making hit on their hands and instead opted to launch the movie in a calculated, limited-market “platform” in an attempt to create an event?
On this historic occasion, I thought it would be interesting to ask Cinema Treasures readers to offer up their memories of the first time they saw the original “Star Wars.” When? Where? Anyone see it on May 25, 1977? Who resided in a small town and had to wait weeks or months to see it? What was your reaction? How was your life or moviegoing habits changed? Etc…
