Located on S. Main Street at Konnoak Drive SW. The Skyview Drive-In was opened on April 9, 1948 with Robert Paige in “The Red Stallion”. It was first operated by American Theatres Inc. and from 1961 operated by B & B Theatres. On December 15, 1967 it was renamed Thunderbird Drive-In reopening with Don Knotts in “The Ghost and Mr. Chicken”, Mary Ann Mobley in “Get Yourself a College Girl” & Paul Newman in “Torn Curtain”. It had a car capacity listed at 600 cars. ABC Southeast Theatres operated the drive-in from 1975 until its closing.
The Thunderbird Drive-In closed on November 16, 1986 with Farrah Fawcett in “Extremities” & Linda Blair in “Savage Streets”. It has since been demolished. There is a new subdivision where the drive-in once stood.

Charlotte also had a Thunderbird Drive-in.An ABC THEATRE too. I visted it after it closed very nice.
My mom lives across the street from where it was, yep all new small houses from $85K
